Sisters, St. Veronica, and the Holy Face
Friday, June 6th, 2008The news this week that the Shroud of Turin will go on display in 2010 would surely have pleased Padre Gaetano Catanoso. St. Veronica, believed to be the original bearer of the veil imprinted with Christ’s face, was a particular inspiration to the sainted priest. In 1934, to help him with his mountain missions in southern Calabria, he founded an order of nuns and called them the Sisters of Saint Veronica of the Holy Face. The sisters, pictured with me above in July 2006 in Reggio Calabria, continue of the work of their founder in southern Italy, the Philippines and Tanzania.
