I love to hear stories about Padre Pio, so thanks for posting this comment.
I am returning to the Catholic Church after 20 years. When I was home in Ireland in 2009 my Dad gave me a Padre Pio rosary beads (one that was given out in a vigil at a catholic church) - I started saying the rosary again. Now in January 2009 I am returning to the catholic church. I have asked Padre Pio to not let me step off the straight and narrow again because I am tired of falling in and out of faith. I feel he is my friend. I have asked him to guid my husband who is a non practising minister back to the Church as I feel it is his divine calling.

Hello Paloma,

So nice to hear from you again, and hear about your own connection to an actual saint. It is a very rare thing, so I hope you are enjoying this new knowledge. Yes, I am very fortunate to have such a talented (and lovely) wife. She is very good at what she does.

As you say, there are many, many saints who have not been recognized by the church. That doesn't make their life of service any less valuable or worthy of reverence. Oct. 1 is a great day to remember them.

I hope you saw on the blog that the paperback version of my book will be out soon. I hope you will tell your friends and family!

All the best, Justin Catanoso

Hi, Justin. I wrote you last year after reading your book. I felt like connecting again and I see that your wife is a singer. How wonderful to have such a talent. A big baccio to her from me. And you report also about the new saints. In September I read some weeks ago, among others, Rafael Arnaiz, a young Cartoussian monk who is Blessed now, will be "promoted". He was a first cousin to my first cousins Baron and he was truly a beautiful person. I never met him but heard so much about him that it means a great deal to me. I thought I would share this tidbit , the Communion of Saints, you know,.... A Church Holiday that I enjoy very much is the 1st of October, All Saints Day. All of the anonymous God-loving people are remembered, honored and prayed to. They lived virtuous lives wherever they were. That's is so beautiful.
Affectionately, your friend from California, Paloma Mansfield

My colleague here at the paper, Mark Sutter, did even better than that on Tuesday in Charlotteville. He was the guest of the food bank director there, and their seats were twice as close. Not only that, but Bruce selected their song recommendation: Kinks/You Really Got Me Going. And better still, they got to meet him after the show for about 10 minutes in his dressing room, got photos and stuff signed. Not surprisingly, Bruce was very gracious, even in his exhausted state. Mark floated back to Greensboro on a cloud.

Wow--those are great seats! And Bruce shows are always better when you're with a first-timer.

Ahh, but I did! Best seats I've ever had. A pal from Winston-Salem got tickets, somehow, through Soozie Tyrell. Fourth row, stage right, 25 feet from the stage. A good show. Not a great one. But my pal was seeing him for the first time. For him, it was a relvelation.
