Repudiation

Fox News reports: “A Roman Catholic diocese in South Carolina officially repudiated a priest Friday after he told his parishioners that people who voted for Barack Obama had supported the “intrinsic evil” of abortion and should not seek Communion.” The whole story is here

One Response to “Repudiation”

  1. Carol Kenny Says:

It might be useful if someone reminded that priest that our nation was founded on the premise of a separation of church and state. Religions shouldn’t have armies to fight for conversion, and priests should work on the moral and ethical values of the congregation, not government laws. How many lives have been lost in Iraq because people voted for Bush as a Pro-Life candidate? Lives of adults have value, too. We need to return to a separation of church and state. It would solve the issue of gay “marriage.” Back when I was in school, we took a course called civics. State and federal jurisdiction covers the legal partnership between two individuals in a civil union and has nothing to do with religion. The sacrament of marriage is a religious union. The government needs to concern itself with the civil union and leave decisions about the religious aspects of marriage up to religions. Religions may differ on what they approve, but people can choose to follow a religion. You don’t get to chose what laws you will follow. Let’s return to a separation of church and state. Think of all the problems that would solve. Thanks for sharing this bit of news on your blog. CK
